You may not be familiar with the name Playground Games, but you’re almost certainly familiar with the studio’s work. Did you enjoy Forza Horizon, by chance? What about Forza Horizon 2 or Forza Horizon 3? Did you explore the breathtakingly rendered United Kingdom in Forza Horizon 4? All of those were lovingly built by Playground Games. It’s a studio with a whole lot of talent, and one that could probably handle any kind of project sent its way.
You may finally see what Playground Games is really made of once the Xbox Series X arrives. Rumor has it Playground has been tasked with bringing the Fable franchise back from the dead.
Fable is an action RPG series last seen back in 2010 with the release of Fable 3. Since then, the studio behind the original trilogy shut down, and all seemed lost for the property. That changed when Playground opened up a second studio, and word started to get around that Fable 4 was very much a possibility. This mostly stems from rumblings from industry watchers at this point, but all the available information seems to suggest Fable 4 is the next project being worked on by Playground Games.
It’s possible Microsoft will officially announce the project at E3 this year as the company stirs up hype for the Xbox Series X. If you’re hoping for Fable to reemerge as a prominent Xbox property, you might want to tune in.
