A group of top European Dota 2 teams, together with Epic Esports Events and WePlay! Esports have launched a new Dota 2 competition called OMEGA League. The competition will be divided into two regions – Europe and Americas. Europe will feature a $550K USD prize pool split between two divisions, while the Americas region will have a combined $40K prize pool.
The league will be organized by WePlay! Esports and Epic Esports Events, with WePlay! handling the main English broadcast and RuHub, a frequent Dota 2 broadcast channel, streaming the Russian-language broadcast.
Participants in the OMEGA League include Team Secret, Natus Vincere, Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, Alliance, Ninjas in Pyjamas, FlytoMoon, Nigma, North American team Evil Geniuses and two-time The International champions OG. Two additional teams will join the main league through a closed qualifier.
The main event will run from Aug. 14 – Sept. 6, filling the gap in Dota 2’s event calendar left by the postponement of the game’s world championship event, The International. No brand sponsors have been revealed at the time of writing.
