Before Topson became known as the greatest underdog in esports history, before he had crushed a single creep with his trusted meme hammer, Topias Taavitsainen grew up in a large family in Northern Finland. Even though his parents were sceptical of their son’s gaming habit, his eventual success and the massive worldwide popularity of esports turned them around. When he lifted the Aegis of Champions as the winner of The International 8, the biggest Dota 2 tournament in the world, one could say he became an overnight sensation over 12 years in the making.
Topson started playing Dota when he was just eight years old at the encouragement of his brothers. Over 10 years and 10,000-plus hours later he was ready to pursue his dream of becoming a Dota professional. After trying his luck with several teams, Topson focused on streaming and soon topped the rankings on European servers. He was then recruited to join OG – a surprise pick, which paid dividends in what’s now considered the best TI final of all time. Today Topson continues to hone skills in his quest to become one of the best mid players in history.
