One of the organizers of the MDL Disneyland Paris Major tournament is “strongly considering” having a Dota 2 event in the Philippines.
Dimitri Vallette, Mars Media’s director of events, said he was impressed with the support of Filipino Dota fans, calling them “the most passionate Dota 2 fans in the world.”
“I attended events in the Philippines a couple of times and was impressed by the energy the fans showed throughout the event. If an opportunity to host a Dota 2 in the Philippines arises, we would strongly consider it,” he told ABS-CBN News.
MDL Paris Major is one of many tournaments that merits points for The International 2019, which will be held in Shanghai. The tournament, organized by game developer Valve, is considered the biggest in the Dota field. It will also be held in Asia for the first time in The International’s history.
Vallette said he believes more Filipinos will tune in to the tournament since it will be held close to their home.
“It’s gonna be the perfect time for the Philippines, who I believe won’t want to miss any minute from it. I’m sure that they will follow this event with more attention than the previous ones. Hopefully, all the Filipinos competing at the event will make their country proud,” Vallette said
Among those who joined the MDL Paris Major were Mineski and Fnatic, which paraded two Filipino players each.
Mineski, which fielded Pinoy Rank 11 Bimbo and captained by Rank 7 Pinoy player Ninjaboogie, fell in the lower bracket against European team, Virtus Pro.
Fnatic, which fielded Philippine Rank 1 DJ and Abed, also bowed out of the tournament early after losing, too.
Despite ending the tournament on a bitter note, Fnatic is already qualified for The International, while Mineski has yet to secure a seat.
“Message namin sa mga fans namin, lalo na sa mga Pilipino, salamat sa pagsuporta. Salamat sa hindi pagba-bash sa amin”, DJ said during the MDL Paris Major’s Media Day.
