The Xbox Series X leads Microsoft’s next-generation lineup, promising a 4K 60 FPS baseline, venturing into 8K resolutions or 120 Hz refresh rates. The striking matte black monolith packs a ton of cutting-edge hardware, slated to deal four times the processing power of Xbox One X.
While Xbox Series X supports full backward compatibility out of the box, including all existing Xbox One purchases, select titles will specifically leverage that overhead. Similar to Xbox One X “Enhanced” titles, they’ll fully leverage the hardware to increase resolutions, smooth framerates, among other graphical gains over Xbox One. From the creators of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, it’s a vibrant, paint-stylized open-world promising hours of exploration. And while delayed beyond an early 2020 release, we still expect it’s cross-generation debut this holiday.
Microsoft launches Xbox Series X alongside the shooter that started it all, with Halo Infinite propelling Master Chief’s heroic saga into the next generation. Powered by the new in-house Slipspace Engine, the latest entry promises unmatched graphical fidelity and gameplay scope, built from the ground up for the next Xbox console.
Now positioned under the Xbox Game Studios family, work on an “unannounced” AAA RPG project is underway at Obsidian Entertainment. With past titles like The Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas, and its latest endeavor seemingly in early stages, the game looks to be a prime flagship for Xbox Series X.

Outriders has also committed to next-generation availability, with bespoke upgrades in development.
Ninja Theory’s first twisted adventure saw Senua face otherworldly threats and tackling internal conflicts with her mental health. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II returns with a dark in-engine trailer, among the first games built for Xbox Series X.
From the creators of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout comes Starfield, an interstellar single-player role-playing experience presented through a sci-fi lens. While pitched as Bethesda’s upcoming “next-generation” experience, we’ve only received a brief one-minute teaser trailer, depicting the dangerous abyss of space.
Bethesda’s legendary fantasy RPG saw its last mainline entry almost one decade ago – and it’s follow-up doesn’t appear close either. The Elder Scrolls VI received a very brief teaser at E3 2018, showcasing rolling hills and a flashy logo. The publisher won’t talk The Elder Scrolls until Starfield launches, which is on track for an unannounced release on next-generation hardware.
Spinning the nuances of modern life into an open-ended sandbox, The Sims is a staple of Electronic Arts’ games lineup. While The Sims 5 hasn’t received a formal unveiling, CEO Andrew Wilson has discussed plans to explore the next generation, backed by cloud tools.
Ubisoft hopes the ongoing success of Rainbow Six Siege translates to Quarantine, an upcoming squad-based shooter with the same tactical foundations, applied to cooperative zombie action. Taking inspiration from the limited-time Outbreak mode, you’ll find many of the same iconic Operators, now facing a global biohazard threat. Quarantine’s delay to late 2020 established the game as an ideal cross-generation title for Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
This multiplayer shooter steadily scaled the ranks through the Xbox One’s lifetime, now boasting over 55 million players, and entering its fifth year of updates. Speaking with Windows Central, Ubisoft has committed to Rainbow Six Siege on next-generation consoles, intending to deliver cross-generation and cross-platform multiplayer.
The third Watch Dogs entry has sights set on dystopian London, with continued technological strides transforming the capital into a surveillance state. The streets of England serve as your next playground for virtual hacking, with every NPC now playable, and each coupled with unique backstories.
WRC heads to next-generation consoles, bringing high-speed rally action with its ninth iteration. While scheduled for September 3, its Xbox Series X release will follow at a later date, though with final enhancements unconfirmed.
